In a significant step toward redefining the role of institutional repositories, Medad Library has been recognized as a DataCite Registered Service Provider. Through the integration of Medad Digital Assets Repository (DAR) with DataCite’s global infrastructure, this milestone elevates Medad from a digital repository solution into a trusted layer within the global research ecosystem. Institutions across the Middle East and North Africa can now seamlessly register DataCite Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and connect their research outputs to the world once they become a DataCite member.
This recognition reflects Medad DAR’s alignment with global research infrastructure standards through DOI registration, metadata interoperability, and persistent identification workflows, where data is not only stored but also structured, connected, and activated for global use. By enabling persistent identification through DOIs, research outputs become discoverable, citable, and traceable across international scholarly networks, strengthening visibility and long-term academic impact.
Aligned with FAIR data principles, Medad DAR enables institutions to establish structured data governance, auditability, and long-term preservation. This shift moves organizations from fragmented data handling to integrated, decision-ready research environments, supporting institutions in advancing open science and research visibility initiatives.
A Connected Research Ecosystem, not a Standalone Repository
Unlike standalone repositories, Medad DAR operates within a fully integrated ecosystem through Medad Library Services Platform (LSP), allowing institutions to manage digital assets, library services, and research outputs in a single unified environment. This creates a seamless lifecycle, from data creation to discovery to citation, while enabling interoperability with other global infrastructures.
As a result, Medad evolves from a repository into a connected research environment that improves operational efficiency and amplifies institutional knowledge. This milestone also strengthens the region’s position within the global knowledge economy by enabling institutions to increase visibility, improve rankings, and expand international collaboration.
